Problems and Solutions

When things go wrong, one after another on a particular day.
Stop for some time, do not do anything on that day, go for a walk, go to sleep, anything.

Give a day, a week or a month depending on the problem.
Then either the problem will disappear or if a valid solution exists, is will come to your mind.

Repeat what you did, it will not fail now. if not just work around, co-exist with the problem.
Problems that cannot be solved are probably solutions to other problems.

You cannot remove the foundation after the structure is complete.

Switch to a a Mellow Yellow

Try not to use very large areas of red in web pages, apps, software, buildings, offices or automobiles, we should avoid pure RED. use orange, pink or purple instead.

RED stands for Hyper Activity, War, Mars planet and metal iron, it is very powerful and should be used in small areas like hyperlinks or buttons. It is not in harmony with nature, when you have large areas of RED.

RED
in more area causes agitation and short temper. use sober light colors for background, and dark colors for fonts or maintain contrast.

(I could not find on web, but an old koontz (Harold Koontz) management book cites an example of how IBM PC marketing showrooms in US a long time ago, had problems when the interiors were bright red, customers were uncomfortable ?, later when they swapped it to a shade of blue....then sales picked up rapidly......from memory...possible errors.)

I will conclude, Switch to a Mellow Yellow - It stands for growth, it will also need washing more often.

MouseTrap Bottomline

If a man make a better mouse-trap than his neighbour,
the world will make a beaten path to his door.

- Ralph Waldo Emerson

But if you are unable to bolster the bottomline.
And the debt and inventories build up.
The world will beat you up at your door.

  • Do not jump into conclusions.
  • Be meticulous be systematic.
  • Be slow and sure, never make haste.
  • Be fully conscious of what you are doing.
  • Break up a big job to small manageable pieces.
  • Do not make commitments you cannot keep.
  • Think twice before you do anything.
  • If a thing has to fail it will .. Murphy.
  • Deliver value for money.
  • Do it right the first time.
  • Test a prototype after its done, verify again and again.
  • Use the right tool for any job
  • Document what you do, do what you document.
  • Process or product evolves with time in many cycles.
  • It it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Revealing an Engineering Secret !

Never make any object perfect, it will shatter to pieces.
Make it very symmetrical, it will break.
Keep a small defect, a tiny bug, this will give it a long life.

The sphinx survives because of the broken nose.
The leaning tower of pisa because of the leaning.

Temperature and Humidity

These two are very important for human or animal health. When these are high or low, mental and physical health is affected.

Examples :

Low humidity - Around 30% can cause skin to crack and reduce enthusiasm, high irritability.
High temperature - Can increase anger and impulsive decisions. Hyperactivity, BP, Acidity.

Natural ways to improve humidity is to restore lakes and ponds and plant big trees. This also brings down the temperature and produces a positive Atmosphere.

Extreme low temperatures and very high humidity are also problems.

The textile looms will get stuck if the water atomizer does not work. Electronic Goods work well when cooled by fans or heatsinks.

High Humidity affects wood and leather with fungus or Mold. On Humans it is very good, but Microorganisms also like it.

The human being is also a complex machine with exotic capabilities. The head exposed long to the afternoon sun can cause sinusitis. So wear a cap when you go out on a very hot afternoon. If the head gets heated up one can lose his cool. So let us improve the environment, plant a big tree and care for it. Dig up ponds and lakes and keep fishes, frogs and dragonflies to keep mosquitoes in check.

High Humidity has a good Thermal Conductivity, both contact and convection. Hence the temperature Hot/Cold is felt more in High Humidity.

Engineering Management Equations

An Engineered Equation

( technologies + skills + processes ) X ( monitored + managed ) = engineering.

an old equation i made, not yet validated

Keep Designs Simple

Circuit or Code -

Keep it Simple, Modular, Reusable, Documented, Controlled, Compact, Clear, Creative, Maintainable, Testable, Tunable.

Software 7S

The 7S of Software Should be -

Simple, Stable, Spry, Slim, Scalable, Sensible, Scrimping.
